Six on last ball: Avatar & 3 idiot rocks!!!

Avatar:

avatar_movie_promo_screenshotSome people don’t leave for money, but it’s their passion which keeps them alive. Hats off to the director, James Cameron, for waiting 12-14 years to deliver a master piece. An ordinary director would have declared 2-3 more movies after the success of Titanic, but he took his time in designing a virtual world named “Pandora”. What as a child you would dream of leaving in? A green world with everything so perfect and so good, just like the Pandora planet is. Director has used his imagination power in building all creatures from flying dragon, to running horses and those scary black dogs.

If you always are getting amused by those 7 colors in rainbow, see the Pandora world describing beauty of all colors you can imagine about trees, sky, water, mountain and almost everything. A must must must watch movie after a long time.

If there is anything that was disappointing about the movie than it was the story line. It’s relatively simple story which could have been better. I guess the directory didn’t wanted to add complexity in the story line to let people explore and dissolve in Pandora world rather than washing up minding in solving out puzzle of a complex story.

I would give it 9/10.

3 Idiots

3-diots I always had this feeling that movie made from book or which got inspired by some other movie takes away the original beauty of the master peace. It happened in past with ‘Hello(a night at call center)’, ‘Da vinci code’, ‘Angels n Demons’ & ‘Gajini’. ‘3 Idiots’ changed my opinion; the book ‘five point someone’ was my first favorite book since I was not a keen reader from my childhood. I would thank Rajkumar santoshi million, billions time for making such movie (no doubt I did the same for munnabhai series). I can’t even think of single actor for the role played by ‘Amir’ (Racho), while madhavan was the one to put me in worry before the release. (Still thank god that it wasn’t Shah rukh khan otherwise the movie story would have been based on love between him and kareen kappoor :P)

Normally I don’t laugh watching movies when I’m with bhakti (don’t know why) but this time I couldn’t stop it for the whole movie. Hats off again second time in week.

Waiting to watch it second time with friends ;-)

It’s 10/10. After a long time.

Answers:

1. The name "Google" is derived from the word "googol," which means what?

"Googol" is a number represented by a 1 followed by one hundred zeros, or 10 to the 100th power. The intentionally misspelled name was intended to convey the wealth of information that the search engine is able to access. However, it's taken on a life of its own as a verb, and in 2006 it made its debut in the Oxford English Dictionary, where it's defined as "to use the Google search engine to obtain information on the Internet."

2. How much user-generated data does Google processes each hour?

1 petabyte

3. What is Google's corporate motto?

Google's motto is "Don't be evil," which suggests that the company conducts itself using only ethical business practices. According to their investor relations literature, failure to adhere to this motto "can result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment." So be nice.

4. Which religious figure received his own channel after Google bought the video website YouTube?

After Google bought YouTube in November 2006, they entered into an agreement with the Pontifical Council for Social Communications to broadcast addresses to the faithful from Pope Benedict. This partnership put YouTube --- and, by extension, Google --- in front of the eyes of millions of Catholics the world over, so it seemed like a good deal for everybody. Well, almost everybody. Domenico Pompili, a representative of Italy's bishops, expressed unease about the partnership and its implications for the world's Catholics, saying that "the relationship with the Web has grown, but the question remains of how must we behave."

5. In 2006, Google entered into an agreement with Fox Interactive Media for search and advertising on what social networking site?

As of the first quarter of 2007, Google has been providing keyword-targeted advertising and search capabilities for all of Fox's online properties, one of which is MySpace.com. Under the terms of the deal, Google was also integrated into many other sites, including Rottentomatoes.com, AskMen.com and Fileplanet.com, among many others.

6. Google acquired a software company called Keyhole, Inc., and renamed their 3D map to what?

The 2004 purchase of Keyhole, Inc. was a real coup for Google, since the acquisition brought with it a product called EarthViewer 3D, rechristened Google Earth in 2005. Using satellite imagery, Google Earth allows users to search for addresses and coordinates, with results returned in the form of superimposed aerial photographs of rooftops, mountain peaks and everything in between.

7. What was the first project undertaken by Google's philanthropy, Google.org?

Google.org was founded in 2004 with $1 billion dollars and a mission to address such issues as poverty, disease and the environment. To address the issue of climate change, the charity purchased several cars to use as test cases in the development of a plug-in hybrid engine. The goal is for this engine to run on a mixture of electricity, ethanol and gasoline, and get gas mileage exceeding 100 miles per gallon.

8. How much does the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button on Google's search page cost the company every year?

Lucky" button takes Google users directly to the top search result, bypassing the search results page. While only one 1% of all searches actually use this feature, the price for Google is still pretty steep --- $110 million, to be exact. This is because the user doesn't just miss all the other search results. The user also misses all the advertising. So why does the company bother? According to Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Google's Search Products and User Experience division, "It's possible to become too dry, too corporate, too much about making money. I think what's delightful about 'I'm Feeling Lucky' is that it reminds you there are real people here."

9. In August 2005, Google sold 14,159,265 shares of its stock. What is the significance of this number?

The numerical form of the mathematical symbol "pi" is 3.14159265, and the number of shares that Google offered is the eight-digit sequence that appears after the decimal point. Inside math jokes are actually standard operating procedure for Google; in their initial public offering in August 2004, the company floated 14,142,135 shares, a reference to1.4142135, or the square root of 2.

10. Which of the following services was actually an April Fool's Day hoax perpetrated by Google?

On April 1, 2007, Google announced a new broadband service that utilized sewage lines to transfer information. The user of this amazing new technology would drop a very long fiber-optic cable into their toilet bowl and, an hour after flushing, would have the other end retrieved by a friendly "Plumbing Hardware Dispatcher (PHD)." The user would then plug in the unflushed end of the cable, install the software and be connected to the information superhighway. It is not known how many people actually fell for this, since Google had by this time already established a track record of April Fool's Day hoaxes, and this one may simply have been too absurd to be believed.

Singapore: Places to visit

The Republic of Singapore, or better known as Singapore, is an island country located to the South of Peninsular Malaysia. It is the smallest nation in South East Asia. The tourism industry in Singapore is one of the largest and i guess the only industries for the country, with more than 9 million tourists in 2006 alone.

Hereby I'm gonna list out famous places of Singapore, starting from my most favorites to least.

SENTOSA ISLAND

The Sentosa Island is Singapore’s premier island resort getaway with plenty of attractions and filled with events all year round. You can enjoy the Underwater world, Luge skyride, Tiger tower sky, The Merlion (not the famous one), 3D+4D movies, and beach sports as well. I’ve only been able to cover the half part of the Sentosa but whatever it was It was the best one. You better visit this place during the weekend when it’s more crowded.

Getting there : Get to HarbourFront MRT station and entere VivoCity (If you were born rich you can loose some pocket over here, it’s big shopping mall), There is cable car service which takes you to Sentosa.

Find my all Sentosa picture at below url

Underwater World

Singapore’s Underwater World is the largest underwater world in South East Asia. It is situated in the Sentosa Island and is said to be a dream haven which showcases the awe-inspiring beauty of a whole different world beneath the seas. It is home to more than 2500 fishes from over 250 different species. In this Underwater World, you will also see one of the rarest creatures on Earth – the dugong Gracie.

The Merlion

Another night visiting place to get some peace of mind. First time when i went there Merlion was under construction due to lightning fallen on it ( Just imagine it!!) The Merlion is considered to be the mascot of Singapore. It is said to be a mythical beast which is half lion and half fish. It symbolizes courage, resilience and strength of the citizens of Singapore. If you are interested to see this Merlion, there is a 8 meter high status standing at the mouth of the famous Singapore River. Don’t forget to get a picture over her. :)

Getting there : Walk along the riverfront from the Raffles Place MRT Station

Find all Meriol and Suntec Pics at,

Clarke Quay

This is a very popular hangout place for those interested in Singapore’s city nightlife.  In this area, you can find a lot of air-conditioned shop houses, push-carts selling mementos, bars, discos and restaurants. Besides there, you can also find a large variety of handicrafts and souvenirs here. A perfect place for shoppers and diners alike.

Getting there : Head to the Riverfront from Clarke Quay MRT Station

Singapore Flyer Observation Wheel

The Singapore Flyer is the world’s largest observation wheel which provides visitors with stunning views of Singapore’s urban cityscape. Located on the south east of Marina Centre, this 42 stories high Flyer offers visitors view up to about 42 kilometers away – including Batam, Bintan and Johor.

Night Safari

After the The world's first wildlife park built for visits at night, the Night Safari is not like any ordinary zoo illuminated by the night or a modern version of nocturnal houses found in many zoos around the globe.

Nestled in 40 hectares of lush secondary forest, the Night Safari offers guests the unique experience of exploring wildlife in a tropical jungle at night. Through the use of subtle lighting technique, guests are able to view over 1,000 nocturnal animals of 100 species in vast naturalistic habitats.
Singapore Zoo

The Singapore Zoo is among the most popular tourist destination in whole of Asia. It has won numerous awards in the past and is highly praised for its open landscape design where the animals live in enclosures which are pretty similar to their natural habitat. The zoo is filled with a wide variety of exotic animals such as the white tigers, polar bears, elephants and others. There are also special exhibitions once in a while such as the golden monkey exhibition. Other than that, the zoo also offers one of the most interesting Night Safari in the world. In this Night Safari, you will be able to experience wildlife on a 45 minutes long tram ride or you can also take one of the three Walking Trails to get a feel of the park at night. It’s one in a lifetime experience to be able to watch over one hundred of different nocturnal animals.

Getting there : Go to Choa Chu Kang MRT Station, and take SMRT Bus 927which will bring you straight to the zoo. Or, you can choose to go to Ang Mo Kio MRT Station and board SBS Transit bus 138

Jurong Bird Park

The Jurong Bird Park is famous for its open-concept bird park which houses more than 600 species of birds. It is also the largest of its kind in Asia Pacific and has the world’s tallest man-made waterfall. Remember to check out the events in order to attend the world-class All Star Bird Show which the park is famous for.

Twitter Comic Strips :D

Le me admit it first, I’m twitterholic! Since i learned what this thing is I've got addicted to it. While the whole would is tweeting around i still find plenty of my frnd who don’t even know about it. I just met one of my old classmate and asked him to join me. He said i already have ‘orkut’ so don’t need twitter. That basically because he doesn’t know wat the hack twitting is!

With just 74 workers and established in 2006, twitter has already become one of the top 10 social networking site (with number being Facebook ( i still hate it).

Nevertheless! This post is not to teach everyone what twitter is, but i found some comic strips which i feel somewhat interesting. Some of them made me laugh in my boring trip here in Singapore. For Twitter lover it’s fun :)

Adiosssssssss!!! Enjoy Tweets, Your friends need it :D

Navratri Rocks (as usual)

It started with some controversies and partitions in friends, but all ended up in a good way. When we first discussed about the place to rock at, i could smell the issues that we are about to face. The very first one to decide where to go. Choice in vadodara is limited mostly to below two places.

  • United Way of Baroda.
  • Arkee (I hope the i’ve spelled it correctly.)

So here we go, i wasn’t sure where to move. My obvious choice was “wherever there are more friends”. I had been to Arkee twice and once to United way. I don’t see much difference other than money and beautiful babes. The united way wins in both the cases. Prices are high (as they thing there are more beautiful girls coming here than at Akee.)

Never mind after asking few friend i made an obvious choice of  “United way”. With bhakti not being around i was hopping it to be a rocking event. Some meeting and discussions made all fellow to move at the common place “United Way of Baroda”.

I had this very happy time until heard the news of my Singapore Visit. I missed some fun in last few days. Here are few pictures to enjoy. :)

Google Wave: Next Big Thing

This is driving me crazy, as the launch date draws nearer, I can’t stop thinking how Google Wave can change the landscape of how we communicate and collaborate online. Much has been promised and we have also seen how some of the cool features can improve the way we work.

I have thought of 10 benefits that we can yield from this highly anticipated platform.

The actual benefits are certainly more than what I am about to list. But till then, this is enough to keep us hyped up.

1. Real time news all in one

To get the latest breaking news, Twitter is arguably the fastest. The only thing that is lacking is solid content and a concerted effort to make the news more informative. With Google Wave, a user such as a witness of the incident can edit, add in his or her comments or share knowledge regarding the news. A journalist’s expertise accompanied by witnesses and users’ opinions will certainly improve real time news quality.

2. Cuts down conversation waiting time

SKYPE, the world’s most popular calling an chat application is good but not great. Often, we have to wait for the other party to type their message even though we know he’s typing something out there and hit enter before we can formulate our thoughts and reply. Fortunately, that’s not the case in Google Wave. Whatever your friend is typing at that moment, you can see it appearing real time and start formulating your thoughts for the next message. It’s like a real verbal conversation with friends.

Great Time saver, really you gonna love this feature.

3. Cool extensions for work and play

To Facebook applications, we can expect quite some Google Wave extensions. These extensions are classified as either robots or gadgets. A robot is an automated participant on a Wave. It can read, edit and share outside content to a Wave. It can also create new Waves, blips and add and remove participants. A gadget is like an application like games and survey forms etc. If you’re having fun with Facebook applications, Google Wave could very well provide the same or higher level of entertainment.

samplegadgets

4. Multiple users instant messaging gets easy

It is easy to have multiple friends chatting in a Wave. Simply drag and drop their avatar and they are in the conversation! Most of the time when there are multiple users chatting, it is hard to keep track of who is talking to who exactly. Google Wave helps to organize the conversation in a neat threaded fashion.

5. Easy project collaboration

Collaboration is Google Wave’s specialty. Every Wave works like a wiki or a Google doc. It places everyone’s work into one Wave, real time. This is an extremely useful tool during meetings when everyone can take notes and input their thoughts into a single Wave. At the end of the day, everyone gets the same set of meeting notes, ensuring consistency and avoiding miscommunication.

6. Retrace with playback

You’d probably feel lost when you are new to a Wave your friends just added you into. Don’t be afraid, its playback function helps you understand how the conversation or email has evolved to what it is at the current moment. Putting the playback function in the news context, you can literally see how a breaking news was first reported, commented, updated and concluded.

7. Easy file sharing

File sharing is simple on Google Wave. Just drag and drop the files into the intended Wave (with your Wave members in it) and sharing done!

8. Embedding a Wave to your site

Embedding a Wave into your blog allows you and the other users in the Wave to edit or add new content to it via Google Wave. Changes are as usual real time and comments on your blog posting via Google Wave are automatically updated to your blog.

embedsample

9. Own a Wave

Just like how companies have their own SMTP email server, companies can also have their own Wave technology. I’m looking forward to have it in my company at least c-sam. :)

Abstract of Google explaination:

…To help potential wave providers get started, our plan is to release an open source, production-quality, reference implementation of the Google Wave client and server, as well as provide an open federation endpoint by the time users start getting access.

That means that you can either use Wave hosted on Google’s infrastructure, or you can have it hosted on your own server, without ever sharing data with Google.

10. Competition drives quality

With the number of benefits Google Wave can bring, as a collaborative and communication platform, it will certainly drive up the quality of what competitors (social sites, cloud computing products and etc) are going to provide in the future.

And guess what, we, as the consumers are the beneficiaries again!

At last I'll leave you guys/gals with the developer presentation that Google had while they introduced this NEXT BIG THING to it’s developer.

Time Mgmt Tips...

Just when i come to Singapore i realize how important time management is, went pass by a tweet about bullets points for time manangement. Sharing them to share with others ;)

When you take control of your time, you take control of your life!
  • Start your day with a plan of action (make your to-do list the night before) (I've already started it here.)
  • Maintain balance in your life (I do)
  • Get enough sleep (I do)
  • Be flexible (I need to work on this)
  • Don’t be a perfectionist ( You kidding!! I'm not )
  • Reward yourself (I do)
  • Don’t waste waiting time (use this time wisely) (I do waste time in waiting.. So need to work on it.)
  • If you can’t sleep, don’t waste time lying in bed, get up and do something (learned from Dr. Wayne Dyer) (I liked this one.)
  • Plan more (I do)
  • Don’t waste time regretting your failures, just look ahead and be excited about the future. (I do)
  • Trust your instincts and believe in yourself. (I do)
  • Before you start a task, ask yourself WHY are you doing it, if your answer is not convincing, do something else! (Need to work on it)
  • Allow yourself to relax and do nothing for BRIEF periods, and don’t feel guilty about it. (I'm pro in this.)
  • PRIORITIZE your to-do-list (I do)
  • Focus on one day at a time (I do)
  • Live for the moment – DO IT NOW! (I don't! Need to work on it.)
  • Itemize, categorize, prioritize, crystallize… but just do it. Take action!
  • Never miss a chance to admire beautiful clouds or a rainbow. (The only thing i admire most is Beautyyyyyy..)
Most Common Time Wasters:
  • Planning (lack of)
  • Priorities (lack of)
  • Telephone Interruptions
  • Disorganized/Cluttered Desk
  • Procrastination
  • Lack of Self Discipline
  • Ineffective Delegation
  • Crisis Management

Angelina Jolie is 'Wanted'

Superb, superb, superb!!! I wonder how come i never heard much about this movie till yesterday. ‘Turn the Bullet’ is actually copied in Scary Movie but i wasn’t aware that it was copied for this one. Many question will raise regarding the story after watching the movie.

Twist and turns, special effects, No S*x, Full ON action.. what else a real boy can demand for. I was watching the movie alone but some of the scene made say ‘vvoohhhooo’ (Specially when Angeline comes out of the bath pool.) Also remembered the scene when angeline took james mcavoy in her red sexy car. i bet you’ll shout out loud when you’ll see the scene. Apart from two persons fighting you’ll also get to see two bullets fighting with each other.

The amazing tattoos and black curve below Angeline's back is the most beautiful, adorable scene. So many thing to say but have only little time i’ll leave you with the purview here which’ll make you go crazy for it.

Rate: 10/10.

Moral of the Movie: You can do anything what you want. Hard work is what is needed.

Note: Girls should avoid this movie ;-)

18 years old virgin

Another movie which made me a bit curious was 18 years old virgin. A girl looking for loosing her virginity in a night, goes through different stupid stages, dumb people. Shaving pubic hair, master****, s*x (stupid and funny).

Boys Go for it…. Girls should also see it ;-)

Rate: 7/10.

PhotoFunia

While bhakti is in Paris, i finally got a chance to give my hand on an Pretty popular photo embedding site. ‘PhotoFunia’. I think primary goal of this site is to mix your photo with some other picture to create an amazing creation which you can only fantasize to be.

E.g. I’ll like to have my photo on a cup of tea (Specially women enjoying that cup while having tea/coffee). I’ll love if angelina jolie would wear a T-shirt with my print on it.

Try yourself http://www.photofunia.com/

So that’s it? For fun you can also alter your colleague's picture into an unwanted space. See the last picture.

Programmers top 10 sentences

Came across this amazing finding about software programmers. Go through each of them and specify number of situations you have faced out of 10. My count is 9/10. The only thing that hasn’t happened to me is 7th.

Have a happy coding.

1.- WTF!

The most repeated sentence in code reviews…

image

2.- It works in my machine!

We all have used this one when blamed for some error…

3.- D’oh!

- Hi Homer, have you removed the debug code from production?

4.- It will be ready tomorrow.

The problem with this sentence is that we use it again the next day, and the next day, and the next day…

5.- Have you tried turning it off and on again?

The TV series  ”The It Crowd” have helped to make this one even more popular…

6.- Why?

Why do we keep asking why?

7.- Is not a bug, it’s a feature.

- It restarts twice a day?!! Well that makes sure that the temporary files get deleted!

image

8.- That code is crap.

All code is crap except mine.

9.- My code is compiling…

xkcdCompiling

10.- No, I don’t know how to fix the microwave.

For some reason, non technical people use to think that every thing with buttons can be fixed by a programmer…
